Eastern Federation
of British Bird Fanciers was founded by Colin Clark in June 1972, the first shows staged by the Eastern Fed, were hosted by
Kings Lyn and Swaffham clubs.
The first all
British show was held at Thetford in March 1975. Colin Mortimer was the clubs
first President. The first show season saw 97 paid up members.
The annual show
venue was then moved to Swaffham Norfolk. In fact the Eastern Fed show is traditionally
the last show of the season held the first weekend in March, it is usually referred to in the fancy as the Swaffham Show.
We meet four times
a year. We have an annual Auction, which is more of a Fun Day than a Fundraiser,
an AGM, a meeting for breeding achievements and
Notwithstanding
the rather relaxed character of our meetings, we take a keen interest in the well-being of our hobby and we are an active
affiliated society of the British Bird Council. In 2003 we moved our show venue around the corner to a much bigger and better
lit Drill Hall, to the approval of all. Our meetings are always advertised in
Cage & Aviary Birds in the classified columns under British Birds and we
are always pleased to receive new members and visitors who can be assured of a warm welcome.
Jim
Theaker was one of the judges at our very first show in 1975 he remembers Colin Clark winning best British with a great
grey shrike.
